A marvellous sport that can provide great satisfaction and emotion in the silence of the snowy peaks. As its name suggests, it unites the characteristics of Alpine skiing and mountaineering.
This activity means moving in the winter mountain environment, or at high altitudes at any rate, using appropriately suitable skis with specific bindings for climbing and with systems to prevent slipping (seal fur) for moving upwards and on flat land on snowy paths, and using off-piste downhill skiing techniques for downhill movement.
The invention of ski mountaineering has made areas that were previously inaccessible, due to environmental factors, reachable to skiers.
Although it has become a sport that is potentially available to all, it is, however, essential to tackle it with the correct athletic preparation, possible along with Alpine guides to the area, and taking all the necessary equipment for any emergency situations.
It is also essential to find out about the risks of avalanches using the nivological service [

There is an annual ski mountaineering event at night in Passo Tonale and the “Lunarally” that unites all the lovers of this sport.
There is also an event held every two years, the Adamello Ski Raid, where the best athletes put each other to the test on an extreme path, a good 42 km long at 3400 m in the Adamello range.
